Suzanne Foster Counselling in Battersea / Clapham Common and Balham
Welcome,
I would like to introduce you to my counselling practice in Battersea / Clapham Common Westside in South West London.
I offer counselling and therapy to individuals. Please note I do not offer couples counselling.
I am a Registerd BACP Integrative Counsellor and therapist whose practice is informed by person-centred, existential and psychodynamic theories.
I imagine that if you are visiting my website that something is troubling you or causing you distress. I hope that I can be of help.
Below are some of the issues I have experience in working with in my practice:
- Anxiety/Panic
- Stress
- Relationship Issues
- Depression
- Bereavement
- Infertility
- Anger Management
- Self Esteem
- Life Choices and Decisions
- Sexuality/Sexual Identity
- Addictive Behaviour
- Changing work or career path
- Loss of direction and creativity
- Dyslexia
We will all experience degrees of some of these difficulties in our lives and its true that problems and illness are part of normal life. However when we feel overwhelmed by these problems and are left frustrated and unhappy with our lives, it may help to see a therapist or counsellor, to work with the creative energy behind self defeating patterns to find more satisfying ways of living.
"The aim of Counselling and Therapy is to provide an opportunity for a client to work towards living in a more satisfying and resourceful way" - British Association of Counselling and Pyschotherapy, 1991
Therapy is about examining your life; this can include changing unhelpful patterns of thinking and feeling. It can also be about the limiting ways of relating to others. Both counselling and psychotherapy are focused on helping you to improve your relationships, removing distress from your life and helping you to live a more creative and satisfying life.
The therapy process is often deeply painful, but leads to greater contentment in life. Unfortunately there are no magic wands, and resolution of problems often takes time, courage and determination. You will need to be an active participant in your change process. Therapy is something you do, rather than something which is done to you. My experience over the years has consistently shown therapy to be helpful and very successful for a wide range of problems.
The therapeutic relationship is of prime importance, and is a particular kind of relationship. You can expect to experience it as supportive, but challenging. You can expect to be treated with respect and integrity, and similarly you will be expected to treat others respectfully and with integrity.

My 'Counselling Blog' page features a new topic each month. In my August blog I feature an article by Gurchehn Singh, an integrative counsellor. On embarking on her training to become a counsellor, Gurchehn found that her own therapy helped her recognise how she had suppressed many negative emotions. By talking about them openly with a trained therapist, her emotions became much lighter. To read moreClick here
